Omnicare Geriatric Pharmaceutical Care Guidelines Saturday, February 4, 2012

The 2012 edition of the Omnicare Geriatric Pharmaceutical Care Guidelines® is online in a web-based format for the first time! Navigation through the individual monographs couldn’t be easier given the site organization, Home Page, FAQs, and Search features. Users have the option of reading on-line or creating their own compilation of items from one or several monographs as a PDF file for printing. The Omnicare Guidelines® are formatted for compatibility with iPADs, MACs, and Microsoft operating systems with plans to offer a mobile application in 2013. Omnicare customers benefit from access to the Omnicare Geriatric Pharmaceutical Care Guidelines® through links from Omniview and OmniviewDr.

Users benefit from the most comprehensive source of geriatric-focused pharmaceutical information. Medication therapies are rated by clinical effectiveness, safety and relative cost, followed by detailed discussions of clinical evidence and therapeutic use of medications for almost 50 common conditions in seniors. The online Omnicare Geriatric Pharmaceutical Care Guidelines® contains the text, reference tables and lists, treatment algorithms and critical pathways previously available in textbook format. Also new in 2012 are algorithms for discontinuing Antipsychotic Medications, discontinuing Proton Pump Inhibitors, treatment of Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia, treatment of Restless Leg Syndrome and discontinuing Sliding Scale Insulin.

The Clinical Tools tab contains other resources to help integrate appropriate medication management into the entire Resident Care process.
